Welcome to Nelson Roots

This blog will be dedicated to the collection and dispersment of information relating to the geneology of the Jay L and Afton May Nelson Family. All contributors are welcome. Our mission is to find and publish accurate information relating to our ancestory. We hope that we can collect here pictures, records of births, deaths, marriages, and confirmations, as well as other verifiable evidence of our forebearers.

Rasmus and Anne's First Child

Hvorslev parish register, page. Birth of Laus Rasmusen January 9, 1816 to Ane Johansdatter of Hvorslev. As mentioned in a prior post, Rasmus is not mentioned in the parents column because he and Ane were not married at the time. He is, however, discussed in the farthest right column and is called "the soldier Rasmus Nielsen." Rasmus and Ane were married in 1819 when Rasmus returned from the Army (I have no documentation of this but know Uncle Jerry discovered this in Denmark while at the Viborg Country archives building).

Hvorslev Parish register, page 192. Departure list showing a 14 year old Laurs Rasmusen as leaving the parish in April 26, 1830 to Vinge Parish. I do not know what he did there but would assume that he would have been a farm hand in that parish. He does come back and is living with Rasmus and Ane in the 1834 Census.

Picture of Laurs and Gedska. I do not know their ages or where this picture was taken. What stands out in this picture is the size of their hands indicating to me the type and quantity of work they performed throughout their lives. Hat tip to Bruce Nelson for the image.

Wow! I can't believe there is a picture of Lars and Gedske. I'd never seen that before. Big smiles from my house. Thanks Bruce!
