Maren Sorensdatter's Family (Rasmus's 2nd Wife)

Oster Velling 1787 Census, page 3. Household #10, Ostervelling Bye, Oster Velling Parish, Viborg County. Maren Sorensdatters father, Soren Christensen age 22, is living with his parents Christen Christensen, age 58 and Maren Jensdatter, age 50. Soren has an older sister Mette, age 26, and a younger brother names Rasmus, age 9. Christen's occupation is farmer. There is also a servant boy living with them, Las Frantsen, age 14.

Oster Velling Census 1801, page 5. Household #17, Ostervelling Bye, Oster Velling Parish, Viborg county. Soren Christensen, age 35 and married to a Maren Christensdatter, age 26. They have two servants listed with them, one is named Rasmus Christensen, age 24 who coincidentally has the same age and name as Soren's younger brother. I wonder if they are one and the same. Soren's occupation is peasant farmer.

Oster Velling Parish register, page 90. Birth of Maren's older brother Christen Sorensen on June 15, 1809. His parents are listed as Soren Christensen and Maren Jensdatter of Oster Velling parish. What is confusing here is the last name of Maren. Is this the same Maren in the 1801 census? You'll see that Maren's mother is also listed as Maren Jensdatter. Did Maren Christensdatter die and Soren remarry a Maren Jensdatter? Did the census taker make a mistake?

Oster Velling Parish Register, page 9. Birth of Maren Sorensdatter on December 15, 1815 to Soren Christensen and Maren Jensdatter. Other names listed here are Christen Jensen and Jens Thomasen. Maren marries Rasmus Neilsen in 1846 and is listed at that time as 30 years old which would be consistent with her birthdate here.

Oster Velling parish register, page 57. Death of Maren Jensdatter, wife of Soren Hansen on November 9, 1828. Soren had Hansen at the end of his name in the 1834 census, and in the 1840 census his son's last name was Hansen and Soren had dropped it from his name. Maren was 52 years old.

Oster Velling 1834 Census, page 5. Household #27, Ostervelling Bye, Oster Velling parish, Viborg county. Soren Christensen is widowed, age 69, and listed as a "tenant." He is living with his two children, Christen, age 25, and Maren, age 19. Living with them are a housekeeper and her child as well as two "servants."

Oster Velling 1840 census, page 5. Household #18, Ostervelling Bye, Oster Velling parish, Viborg county. Soren is listed as Christensen without Hansen and is widowed and 74. His occupation is "tenant." His son Christen Sorenson Hansen is 31 and married to Johanne Christensdatter. Christens occupation is "Gaardeier." They have a daughter Maren Christensdatter, age 9. Two others are listed as "servants." One is a Maren Sorensdatter, age 24, coincidentally with the same name and age as our Maren Sorensdatter. Could this be Soren's daughter?

Oster Velling parish register, page 148. Death of Soren Christensen Hansen, January 12, 1845 at the age of 79 years. He is listed as a farmer. One year later his daughter Maren marries Rasmus Nielsen.
