Niels Rasmusen and Family: Son of Rasmus Nielsen and Anne Johansdatter

1840 Torup Census, page 2. Niels is 19 years old and living with a family in Torup parish, Middlesom County. He is a weaver. In the 1834 Vester Velling census Niels was living with his father and mother and was 13 years old.

Marriage Sonder Vinge parish, page 146. A 22 year old Niels Rasmusen of Liltorup village is married to Ane Marie Jensdatter, age 21 of Vinge parish. Ane Marie's father is Jens? Jensen of ?. Rasmus Nielsen is Niels father. They are married December 2, 1843.

1845 Vester Velling parish census, page 18. Niels and Ane Marie are 24 and 25, respectively. They have a 1 year old daughter Ane Nielsdatter who was born in Vinge parish. There are two other people in the household: Mette Jensdatter, age 49, unmarried, who is a "house girl." Also is a Soren Eriksen who is 17, unmarried, and learning the weaving trade.

1850 Vester Velling Census, page 14. Niels and Ane are 29 and 30, respectively. They have 3 children now. Their oldest is Ane Nielsdatter, age 6, middle child is Jens Nielsen, age 5, and their youngest is Dorthe Rasmine Nielsdatter, age 1. Mette Jensdatter is 57 and is living with them. She is a "huusfaders svigermoder.han forsørger." (?). Jens and Dorthe were born in the Vester Velling parish.

1855 Vester Velling Census, page 19. Niels and Ane Marie are 34 and 35, respectively. They have added another child Mette Andrea Nielsdatter, age 1, born in Vester Velling. The older three children are still living in the home. Mette Jensdatter is still living with them and is 62 years old.

1860 Vester Velling parish census, page 9. Niels and Ane Marie are both 40 years old. Ane is 16, Dorthe Rasmine is 11, Jens is not living with them or has passed away--he would have been 15. Mette Andrea is 6, and Johanne Birgitte is 1. Mette Jensen is 67. They are all listed as Lutheran. What is neat about this census document is below the family of Niels Rasmusen is his brother Laurs's family. They must have been neighbors prior to Laurs leaving for America. I wonder what Niels thought about him joining the church.

1870 Vester Velling parish census, page 29. Niels is 48, Ane is 49. Ane is 26 and unmarried. Mette Andrea is 19, Johanne Birgitte is 7. I have found two Birgitte's in the birth section of the parish register. One was born in 1859 and the other was born in 1862. This Birgitte age 7 would have been the second one born, while the first would have been 11 at this time. I wonder if the first Johanne Birgitte died and they named their next child, a girl, after her.

1880 Vester Velling parish census, page 39. Niels Rasmusen, 58, and Ane Marie, 59 are living with 3 children. Johanne birgitte Nielsen is 17. The other two children are not theirs and are "pleiebarns" or foster children. The first is Christine Thorup age 12 and the second is Niels Christian Nielsen, age 2. I doubt the last one is Niels and Ane Maries child as Ane Marie would have been 57 at his birth. Mette Jensdatter is still going strong at 86 years old and is "Forsørges af Husfaderen" or supported by the house father. Is she related to Ane Marie?

Death Vester Velling parish register, page 97. Death of Niels Rasmussen on July 12, 1889. He was buried July 18, 1889. He is married at the time of death and was a farmer in Lille Torup and was 68 at the time of death. No cause is listed.

1890 Vester Velling census, page 44. Johanne Birgitte Nielsen is 27 and unmarried. Living with her is Ane Marie Jensen age 69 and a widow. Johanne Birgitte is a weaver. They are living in Lill Torup village.

Death Vester Velling parish register, page 236. Death of Ane Marie Jensen on March 11, 1893 and buried March 18, 1893. She was 72 years old. She is the widow of farmer Niels Rasmussen of Lille Torup. She was the daughter of an unmarried woman Mette Andreasen born in Sonder Vinge parish. I think her father was a gardener and was named Jens Hojlund of Langaa parish.
