Maren Sorensdatter: Sister of Gedska

Birth, Hinge Parish register, page 36. Maren was born to Soren Hermansen and Maren Pedersdatter of Frausing village on June 1, 1808. She is the top one on the page. I had a difficult time finding her as Soren and Maren moved from parish to parish when they were having children. In the census's Maren's birthplace is listed as several different places but one common name was Frausing which I could not find in the parish list. It wasn't until I searched for Frausing Denmark that I discovered it was a village in Hinge parish. Finding her born here confirmed that the Maren I followed in the census was indeed our ancestor.

Confirmation, Vindum parish register. Maren's father Soren had passed away in 1816. Maren's mother Maren Pedersdatter is listed in the confirmation record. Her birthdate is also listed as June 1, 1808. This confirmation occured in 1825 when she was about 17 years old.

Haurum parish census, 1834, page 9. Maren and her brother Herman and her sister Anne Marie were working together at home in Haurum parish. Two years later I next discover Maren in Langaa parish.

Birth, Langaa parish register, page 9. Soren Sorensen was born to an unmarried Maren Sorensdatter on March 2, 1836. He was christened in the church April 4. In the far right hand column Soren Pedersen of Fly parish is listed as the father. They would later get married.

Marriage, Langaa parish register, page 135. Soren pedersen age 39 and Maren Sorensdatter age 29 are married in Langaa parish on January 25, 1837. Soren Pedersen, their son, would have been around 1 years old.

1840 Langaa census, page 4. Soren is 45 and Maren is 32. Soren Sorensen is 4 years old. Soren is a farmhand. Also living in their home is another family. Things must have been crowded because they move to Vindum parish.

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 18. Margrethe Sorensen is born on June 7, 1841 to Soren and Maren. She is christened in the church August 13th. They were living in Faarup village at the time. Witnesses were Niels Sorensen and Ane Margrethe T?dersdatter of Elsborg. Maren Nielsdatter, Anders Sorensen, Jens Vindum. Peder Sorensen from Elsborg is also listed, this was likely Maren's older brother.

1845 Vindum census, page 10. Soren Pedersen (Voul) age 48 and Maren age 37 are listed with their two children Soren age 11, and Margrethe age 4. This census was the one that showed me where Soren was born (Langaa parish) and allowed me to find their marriage and the fact that they had Soren as a child who is not listed in any further censuses because he dies.

Death, Vindum parish register, page 137. Soren Sorensen dies November 5, 1848. His father is listed as Soren Pedersen. Another name is listed as well but I am unsure of the relationship. He is listed as 14 years old and was buried November 12, 1848.

1850 Vindum census, page 8. Soren is 53, Maren is 42. Margrethe is 9. Maren Pedersdatter, Marens mother is living with them and is 81 years old. Maren Pedersdatter's birthplace is Sahl parish. Maren Sorensdatter is listed as being born in Levring parish.

1855 Vindum Parish census, page 30. Maren Sorensdatter is 47 from Frausing by birth, and Margrethe Sorensdatter is 14. The far right column may explain why Soren Pedersen is not listed in the census. There is a Maren Pedersdatter who is listed underneath them who is 77 years old from Sall parish...the same one as before possibly as the census takers I've noticed are inaccurate in their ages for the older widows.

1860 Vindum census, page 9. The family is reunited again. Soren Pedersen has "Vruu"? added to his name. He is 67. Maren is 52. There is a two year old child who is a foster child living with them who was born in Vindum. Maren Pedersdatter is 88 years old and is listed as being born in Sall parish.

1870 Vindum census, page 26. Soren is 73 and Maren is 63. They have a 7 year old foster child living with them. Maren's birthplace is listed as Vindum.

1880 Vindum census, page 38. Soren is 85 and Maren is 77. There is a younger married couple living with them. Marens birthplace is now listed as Gronbaek. This is the last census listing Soren before he dies.

Death, Vindum parish, page 54. Soren Pedersen Vrou? passes away on June 3, 1883. He is 85 years old and listed as a farmer living in Faarup village born in Fly parish. Maren is still alive as he is listed as married instead of a widower. The last name "Vrou" showed up on a few of the censuses and I do not know the signficance but in Maren's death record she has that listed as her last name.

1890 Vindum census, page 52. Maren Sorensen Vrou age 81, born in Frausing is living with another widow Ane Marie Nielsen age 58 in the village of Faurrup.

Death, Vindum parish register, page 29. Maren "Vroul" passes away on September 7, 1891 at the age of 83 years. She is listed as a widow in Faarup and was born in "Vroul." I suspect as an older widow without family around to give information that because her husbands last name was Vroul (maybe the village he was from) that the priest may have written that she was from there as well.
