Herman Sorensen: Brother of Gedska

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 191. Herman, son of Soren Hermansen born on August 27, 1811. Herman was the second to last child of Soren and Maren. Gedska was the youngest.

Confirmation, Vejby parish register, Frederiksborg county, page 164. Sidse Andersdatter of Orby village. Her parents are Anders Jorgensen and Hedwig Andersdatter of Orby. Sidse is 14 years old and is born June 7, 1806. This is Herman's future wife. Unfortunately the parish records in Vejby only go to 1814 preventing me from finding her birth record. Frederiksborg county is near Copenhagen, on the opposite side of the country from where Herman was born.

Confirmation, Vindum parish register, page 82. Herman Sorensen of Vindum is confirmed in 1827 at the age of 15 years. His birthdate is listed correctly as August 27, 1811. He was vaccinated in 1815.

1834 Haurum parish census, page 9. Herman is working in Hauram with a household that breeds animals. He is 22 and a "tærsker" or thresher. Also working here are Ane Marie and Maren, his older sisters.

1845 Kobenhavn census, Kobenhavn staden, Øster Kvarter, København Øster Kvarter, Lille Kongensgade no. 70, 3. sal i Baghuuset. I found Herman in Copenhagen in the 1845 and 1850 census. His wife here is Sidse Andersdatter from Orby, Frederiksborg county. Herman is listed as being from "Windom." His age in the document is likely 33 but the upper half of the first number is not legible and the census readers actually wrote 53. He is an "arbejdsmand," or laborer.

1850 København census, København (Staden), Rosenborg Kvarter, Rosenborg, Landemærket 166, kjælderen, 389. Herman is 38, Sidse is 43. His birthplace is Vindum, Viborg amt. They are living with two widows ages 69 and 68. I am not able to look further at their family because the census records have not been completed beyond 1850 for Copenhagen so I do not what happens to them after this time. I am not able to find their marriage as their are hundreds of parish registers to go through. They were married between 1834 and 1845. They also do not have any children listed on either census so if they did have kids, they died between the census years.
