Herman Sorensen: Brother of Gedska

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 191. Herman, son of Soren Hermansen born on August 27, 1811. Herman was the second to last child of Soren and Maren. Gedska was the youngest.

Confirmation, Vejby parish register, Frederiksborg county, page 164. Sidse Andersdatter of Orby village. Her parents are Anders Jorgensen and Hedwig Andersdatter of Orby. Sidse is 14 years old and is born June 7, 1806. This is Herman's future wife. Unfortunately the parish records in Vejby only go to 1814 preventing me from finding her birth record. Frederiksborg county is near Copenhagen, on the opposite side of the country from where Herman was born.

Confirmation, Vindum parish register, page 82. Herman Sorensen of Vindum is confirmed in 1827 at the age of 15 years. His birthdate is listed correctly as August 27, 1811. He was vaccinated in 1815.

1834 Haurum parish census, page 9. Herman is working in Hauram with a household that breeds animals. He is 22 and a "tærsker" or thresher. Also working here are Ane Marie and Maren, his older sisters.

1845 Kobenhavn census, Kobenhavn staden, Øster Kvarter, København Øster Kvarter, Lille Kongensgade no. 70, 3. sal i Baghuuset. I found Herman in Copenhagen in the 1845 and 1850 census. His wife here is Sidse Andersdatter from Orby, Frederiksborg county. Herman is listed as being from "Windom." His age in the document is likely 33 but the upper half of the first number is not legible and the census readers actually wrote 53. He is an "arbejdsmand," or laborer.

1850 København census, København (Staden), Rosenborg Kvarter, Rosenborg, Landemærket 166, kjælderen, 389. Herman is 38, Sidse is 43. His birthplace is Vindum, Viborg amt. They are living with two widows ages 69 and 68. I am not able to look further at their family because the census records have not been completed beyond 1850 for Copenhagen so I do not what happens to them after this time. I am not able to find their marriage as their are hundreds of parish registers to go through. They were married between 1834 and 1845. They also do not have any children listed on either census so if they did have kids, they died between the census years.

Margarethe Sorensen: Daughter of Maren Sorensdatter

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 18. Margarethe Sorensen is born June 7, 1841 and christened August 13, 1841 at the church. Parents are Soren Pedersen and Maren Sorensdatter of Faarup village. Witnesses were Niels Sorensen and Ane Margrette Tondersdatter of Elsborg. Others were Maren Nielsdatter, Anders Sorensen and Jens Vindum, all of Faarup. Peder Sorensen of Elsborg, Maren's brother, was also present.

Birth, Fredericks parish register, page 101. Jacob Cramer born July 18, 1843 and christened October 15 at the church. His parents are Johan Georg Cramer and Maren Elisabeth Harritz of Gronbaek. Witnesses were Jacob Harritz and several others from Gronbaek. Frederick parish was several parishes over from Vindum.

Confirmation, Vindum parish register, page 61. In 1855 Margarethe Sorensen of Faarup was confirmed. her father is listed as Soren Pedersen Vroue, and mother is Maren Sorensdatter of Faarup. Her birthdate and christening date are listed correctly.

Confirmation, Fredericks parish register, page 80. Jacob is the 15th kid confirmed this year. His parents are listed as Johan Georg Cramer and his mother is Marie Elisabeth Harritz of Fredericks.

1870 Hojbjerg census, page 40. Margarethe is unmarried, 28 years old and is living in the Sorensen home as a servant girl. Her birthplace is listed as Vindum. She would not however remain single for long.

Marriage, Hojbjerg parish register, page 3. Fourth couple married in 1870 on October 28 were Jacob Cramer and Margarethe Sorensen. Jacob's father is Johan Georg Cramer of Fredericks. Jacob was vaccinated for smallpox in 1849. Margarethe's father was Soren Pedersen and she was vaccinated may 19, 1842.

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 75. Johanne Georgine Marie Elisabeth Kramer is born October 11, 1871 and christened at home on November 12, 1871. Margarethe was 31 at the time of her birth. The baby was not presented to the church because it passed away December 1871.

Death, Vindum parish register, page 68. Johanne Georgine Marie Elisabeth passes away on December 7, 1871 and buried December 17. Jacob Cramer is listed as a tenant farmer.

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 81. One and one-half years later on May 8, 1873, a second child is born to Jacob and Margarethe and recieves the same name as their first: Johanne Georgine Marie Elisabeth Kramer. She is christened in the church June 22, 1873. Margarethe is 32. The witnesses do not appear to be family and are all from Faarup.

Birth, Gronbaek parish register, page 16. Severin Martin Kramer is born November 28, 1874 and christened in the church on either December 15 or March 25 of the next year. Listed as a witness is Soren Pedersen, Severin's grandfather through Margarethe.

Birth, Gronbaek parish register, page 79. Sorine Petrine Kirstine Kramer is born April 9, 1877 and christened in the church may 10, 1877. Margarethe was 36 years old.

Birth, Gronbaek parish register, page 40. Johan Georg Kramer is born April 21, 1879 and christened in the church April 26, 1879. Obviously named after Jacob's father. Margarethe was 37 years old.

1880 Skorup Census, Skandeborg county, page 15. Jacob is 36, Margarethe is 38. Four children are listed, all but the oldest who passed away soon after she was born. Jacob is listed as a "Dræningsmester" or Drainage Master. They have moved from Gronbaek parish Viborg county to Skandeborg county which is directly west of Viborg. I do not know what happens to them after this as the census has not been completed for many of the parishes after these years.

Maren Sorensdatter: Sister of Gedska

Birth, Hinge Parish register, page 36. Maren was born to Soren Hermansen and Maren Pedersdatter of Frausing village on June 1, 1808. She is the top one on the page. I had a difficult time finding her as Soren and Maren moved from parish to parish when they were having children. In the census's Maren's birthplace is listed as several different places but one common name was Frausing which I could not find in the parish list. It wasn't until I searched for Frausing Denmark that I discovered it was a village in Hinge parish. Finding her born here confirmed that the Maren I followed in the census was indeed our ancestor.

Confirmation, Vindum parish register. Maren's father Soren had passed away in 1816. Maren's mother Maren Pedersdatter is listed in the confirmation record. Her birthdate is also listed as June 1, 1808. This confirmation occured in 1825 when she was about 17 years old.

Haurum parish census, 1834, page 9. Maren and her brother Herman and her sister Anne Marie were working together at home in Haurum parish. Two years later I next discover Maren in Langaa parish.

Birth, Langaa parish register, page 9. Soren Sorensen was born to an unmarried Maren Sorensdatter on March 2, 1836. He was christened in the church April 4. In the far right hand column Soren Pedersen of Fly parish is listed as the father. They would later get married.

Marriage, Langaa parish register, page 135. Soren pedersen age 39 and Maren Sorensdatter age 29 are married in Langaa parish on January 25, 1837. Soren Pedersen, their son, would have been around 1 years old.

1840 Langaa census, page 4. Soren is 45 and Maren is 32. Soren Sorensen is 4 years old. Soren is a farmhand. Also living in their home is another family. Things must have been crowded because they move to Vindum parish.

Birth, Vindum parish register, page 18. Margrethe Sorensen is born on June 7, 1841 to Soren and Maren. She is christened in the church August 13th. They were living in Faarup village at the time. Witnesses were Niels Sorensen and Ane Margrethe T?dersdatter of Elsborg. Maren Nielsdatter, Anders Sorensen, Jens Vindum. Peder Sorensen from Elsborg is also listed, this was likely Maren's older brother.

1845 Vindum census, page 10. Soren Pedersen (Voul) age 48 and Maren age 37 are listed with their two children Soren age 11, and Margrethe age 4. This census was the one that showed me where Soren was born (Langaa parish) and allowed me to find their marriage and the fact that they had Soren as a child who is not listed in any further censuses because he dies.

Death, Vindum parish register, page 137. Soren Sorensen dies November 5, 1848. His father is listed as Soren Pedersen. Another name is listed as well but I am unsure of the relationship. He is listed as 14 years old and was buried November 12, 1848.

1850 Vindum census, page 8. Soren is 53, Maren is 42. Margrethe is 9. Maren Pedersdatter, Marens mother is living with them and is 81 years old. Maren Pedersdatter's birthplace is Sahl parish. Maren Sorensdatter is listed as being born in Levring parish.

1855 Vindum Parish census, page 30. Maren Sorensdatter is 47 from Frausing by birth, and Margrethe Sorensdatter is 14. The far right column may explain why Soren Pedersen is not listed in the census. There is a Maren Pedersdatter who is listed underneath them who is 77 years old from Sall parish...the same one as before possibly as the census takers I've noticed are inaccurate in their ages for the older widows.

1860 Vindum census, page 9. The family is reunited again. Soren Pedersen has "Vruu"? added to his name. He is 67. Maren is 52. There is a two year old child who is a foster child living with them who was born in Vindum. Maren Pedersdatter is 88 years old and is listed as being born in Sall parish.

1870 Vindum census, page 26. Soren is 73 and Maren is 63. They have a 7 year old foster child living with them. Maren's birthplace is listed as Vindum.

1880 Vindum census, page 38. Soren is 85 and Maren is 77. There is a younger married couple living with them. Marens birthplace is now listed as Gronbaek. This is the last census listing Soren before he dies.

Death, Vindum parish, page 54. Soren Pedersen Vrou? passes away on June 3, 1883. He is 85 years old and listed as a farmer living in Faarup village born in Fly parish. Maren is still alive as he is listed as married instead of a widower. The last name "Vrou" showed up on a few of the censuses and I do not know the signficance but in Maren's death record she has that listed as her last name.

1890 Vindum census, page 52. Maren Sorensen Vrou age 81, born in Frausing is living with another widow Ane Marie Nielsen age 58 in the village of Faurrup.

Death, Vindum parish register, page 29. Maren "Vroul" passes away on September 7, 1891 at the age of 83 years. She is listed as a widow in Faarup and was born in "Vroul." I suspect as an older widow without family around to give information that because her husbands last name was Vroul (maybe the village he was from) that the priest may have written that she was from there as well.

Inger Marie Pedersdatter: First Child of Peder Sorensen and Maren Jensdatter

Birth, Thorsted parish register, Ringkobing county, page 5. Lauridts Tovt (Christensen) born July 26, 1823 to parents to Christen Bentsen and Anne Kirstine Andersdatter. Ringkobing county was just west of Viborg county. This is Inger Marie's husband and born 7 years earlier than her.

Birth, Vium Parish register, page 30. Inger Marie Pedersdatter born March 30, 1830 to Peder Sorensen and Maren Jensdatter of Vium. Witnesses are hard to read but one is Gregers Fredicksen.

Departure, Elsborg parish register, page 197. Inger Marie is 18 and her father is listed as Peder Hermansen. This document helped Scott and I figure out that Peder changed his last name from Sorensen to Hermansen. She is going to Bjorning parish.

Departure, Elsborg parish register, page 199. Inger Marie is leaving Elsborg once again at the age of 21 and going to Sahl parish.

Marriage, Elsborg parish register, page 175. Lauritz Christensen born in Thorsted July 26, 1823 marries Inger Marie of Elsborg born March 30, 1830. Peder Hermansen is of Elsborg and Anders Christensen of Sorlsev (?) are the witnesses. They are married June 20, 1852.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 93. Marie Laustsen born August 22, 1853, first child of Inger Marie and Laust Christensen of Vindelbek village.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 116. Christen Laustensen born January 12, 1855. Chirstened in the church April 9, 1855.

1855 Elsborg parish census, page 17. Laust is 32, Inger Marie is 25. They have Maren (this must be Marie) age 2, and an unbaptized child under the age of 1 (Christen) living with them. Laust is a tenant farmer.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 103. Ane Kirstine Laursen born June 17, 1856. Christened in the church September 7, 1856. She is carried by Ane Marie Poulsen from Viborg which is Inger Marie's brothers wife.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 111. Petrine Laursen born December 6, 1857 and Christened at home December 22, 1857 likely because she was sick and not expected to live.

Death, Elsborg parish register, page 131. Petrine passes away April 28, 1858 and is buried May 2, 1858. She was 20 weeks old at the time of her death. The right hand column may give us a clue about the cause of death.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 30. Birth of Petrine Laursen on March 3, 1859, named after her sister her died after only 20 weeks. Christened April 21, 1859 at the church.

1860 Elsborg parish census, page 5. Laurs is 37, Inger Marie is 30. Living with them are Marie, age 7, Christen, age 6, Ane Christine, age 4, and Petrine age 1. On the same page near the bottom is Peder Hermansen age 54, and Maren Jensdatter age 60.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 33. Kirsten Marie Laustsen born January 29, 1861 and christened February 16, 1861 at home. Inger Marie was 32. It is noted the child dies and was not presented in the church.

Death, Elsborg parish register, page 132. Death of Kirstin Marie Lausten on February 17, 1861. Buried February 24. She was 3 weeks old.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 10. Peder Laursen born December 22, 1864 and christened in the church May 29, 1864. Peder Hermansen and Maren Jensdatter are listed as witnesses.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 38. Baby girl born March 18, 1866 but died or was stillborn on that day. Death Elsborg parish register, page 133. Death of the baby girl recorded March 18, 1866 and buried on the 29th of March.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 14. Martin Laursen born August 16, 1867 and christened in the church October 27 of that year.

Birth, Elsborg parish register, page 23. Carl Laursen born March 1, 1872 and christened at home on April 9 of that year. It appears the child dies before it is presented in the church.

Death, Elsborg parish register, page 126. Laurs Christensen Toft dies October 19, 1873 and is buried on October 24. He was 50 years old and born in Thorsted parish. Laurs name varied in teh many different vital recordings. His death name is the name I will use in new family search and have given all of his children the last name of Laursen. Also noted on this document is the 10th and last son of Inger Marie and Laurs who is the first name on the top of the page, named Carl Laursen who passes away on April 10, 1872, just 1 1/2 months after he was born. I have yet to find Inger Maries death documentation. I assume she moved in with one of her 6 living children.
